Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to bring my own bike?

Yes, everybody needs to have their own bike. The club does not have any bikes to lend.

What are your practices like?

Our group rides are typically 90 minutes at an easy no-drop pace. We also have "skills" practices where we practice things such as contact, cornering, climbing, descending, sprinting, etc.

Is there bike storage on campus?

Aside from SUNY ESF’s Centennial Hall there is no indoor bike storage on campus, but this has never stopped our dorming members. We recommend talking with other members about where to keep your bike.

Where can I get that slick kit of yours?

Every year we place a clothing order open to everyone in mid-September. This is your chance to get the #bestkit, but we may have extras of some items so please don’t hesitate to ask.

Do I have to race to be in the club?

No. Racing is encouraged because it’s fun and motivating, but many people come along simply to improve fitness, meet new people, and explore the Syracuse countryside.

What do you do when it snows?

We look longingly out the window until spring and attend our group spin practices in Archbold gym.

Road? Mountain? Cyclocross?

Yes, yes, and yes. We are mostly a road-centered club, but we have riders and racers of all disciplines. Look out for our group rides on our Facebook pages.

What do the dues cover?

The dues cover hotels for racing season. The only out of pocket racing expense we share is gas (and the food we bring). As a paying member wyou can also take advantage of the club's mechanics services.
